How to Gain Watchers Tips 1

Journal Entry: Mon Mar 11, 2013, 1:32 PM

First off, let me tell you popularity isn't about being friends with famous artist! It's about having your work seen and admired, I'm sure any artist would love for their work to be admired, or at least appreciated! I'm not a savant on these things so please don't quote me XDD;; Anyway, here is how I do things to try and get some watchers for my artwork!

Style conflict! xAx

Don't be afraid to use someone's style and add many things that inspire you to make a style, however most people usually get angry if you don't credit them! The best thing to do is list them as a style influence on your page! Many popular artist have style influences so you shouldn't be afraid or embarrassed to show yours!

It's much better than having arguments about it! The artist will also appreciate the credit!

Don't feel ashamed to enter your artwork into groups, I always see people saying you're an attention whore if you enter it into too many groups. However, don't let that change your decisions on entering your artwork into groups! Thats what groups are for! They're there so people with the same interest/taste can admire each other's artwork!

Just make sure to enter your artwork into appropriate groups!

Drawing fanart can get you watchers, and maybe even some friends with the same interest as you! Fanart won't make you instantly famous or anything but it's a nice way to get yourself out there!

Converse with your watchers, look at their artwork too! Not only will you achieve more friends but it'll be a great experience //// Don't feel afraid to talk to them!

That's all for now!! Hope I could be of some help!

This is great! ♥ You've given some top advice.
I always think it's sillying when people say "you've copied" or whatever. All designers and artists have been influenced by others, films, food, fashion... everything! That's how we come up with creative ideas. Obviously there is plain plagiarism, but being inspired isn't something people should be ashamed by.

Great advice! It's all the simple stuff, really, but a lot of these things have a bad stigma so people don't do them XD If you want to be popular, just go for it! Wanting to be popular is not wrong, who doesn't want crowds of people to see their art? :P

LoliHime I'm glad you talked about style influence! It's definitely fine to be heavily influenced by someone's style. You might even copy their style completely, but chances are that's only a phase, and you'll soon be adding other influences to the style.
I swear any artist who gets upset with someone copying their style is paranoid... why would you be upset that a lesser-experienced artist was so hugely inspired by you? Are you that unconfident in your abilities that you think they'll steal all your watchers from you? XD
Like you said though, crediting them as an influence can probably help get rid of any hard feelings :3
(Also note to anyone reading this: THIS IS NOT THE SAME AS TRACING. The number of people who trace pixel icon art and say that its only 'the same style'. >.>; Tracing = bad, Influence = good lol)

great advice ... is it hard to find from where the drawing style got influenced? got any advice?
i really liked the fanart tips it has been a really long since i draw a fan art...
and talking to people ya that's a good one because without talking nobody will know what you are thinking unless you talk or express your self.. is not that right?
joining group is a great idea but still you need to find the group that has a common interest with you as you said..

anyway... thanks was helpful...

For the influence, it could be ANY style you find interesting and may want to try!
I just usually type the names of the people who could potentially be my influences! >u<
Also, it's easy to find groups that are suited to YOUR taste! Just look in the group sections
on DA :') Thats how I find the groups that were right for me, even for my fandom taste!

Hope I could be of some help!
